day 1: arrive in barcelona

the first travels of our trip were very hectic. After a delay from Charlotte airport and a huge delay getting to the terminal in Philly, we had to sprint all the way down 2 terminals to catch our flight to Barcelona. We ended up making the flight along with many other people that had sprinted there too. the flight was an overnighter and we arrived in Barcelona around 8:30 in the morning.

Landing in Barcelona, i had no idea what to expect, neither Joe or i had been to Europe before, and i had never even been out of the country. We go to retrieve our baggage and wait until all the baggage has been loaded, and we turn to each other and realize that our bags were not in Europe. Turns out many people were also in the same boat. Some people needed to catch a cruise the next morning and others had trains for that night. Luckily for us, we hadn't planed anything in advance. We talked to the lost baggage people and they said the baggage was probably in Philly and there was only one flight out per day. We had to wait until the next morning to get our baggage.

We have just our carry ons with us, so we go to the place where i am staying when i study abroad and try and get a room for the night. We get there, but cant check in until 4:00 so we wonder around barcelona (tired and frustrated) until 4:00 and we check in.

Nothing much happens this night because we have been in the sames clothes for a couple of days and smell sorta bad. we just decide to explore the area a little.
